You might have consider to start with Energy Saving / Smart Home. You have realised that there is something called X10 and when you dig a bit deeper you will also realise that there is other protocols out there. X10 is affordable and the signals is sent over the power cables in your house. The same power cables as your power company will use to send the data from the smart meter back to the power company. There is several unconfirmed reports among X10 users that the smart meter ruins the X10 network.
You might think that a simple filter to take the signals out would be enought... Well, your night power settings that controlls e.g. some of the water heaters, etc travels on the same lines...
Your Home Plug Power Line, used to build your LAN over the power network might also be affected by this.
